Undermined, Macrobert Arts Centre, Stirling, UK

2017 marks the thirty-year anniversary of the closing of the Polmaise Colliery, Stirlingshire. Under-Mined, an arts exhibition by artist Philip Gurrey, combines visual art, audio documentation and music to create a space that reflects the impact that the coal industry made upon the people of Scotland. It looks back at the industry’s past, seeks to connect political upheaval with social movements and community action of today and gazes forwards at a fresh vision of the future through the creative and sociopolitical advancements which have stepped into the void of our industrial past.

This exhibition was made possible with support from Macrobert Arts Centre and combines work by artist Philip Gurrey, members of the Fallin and Sauchie communities and banners generously donated by the National Mining Museum of Scotland and the Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial life.
